Celebrate This Valentines Day

Valentines Day is also referred to as Saint Valentines Day. It is a day which is celebrated in most countries and is celebrated on February 14 every year. On this particular day, generally love notes are exchanged by way of 'valentines'. This could resemble symbols like doves, Cupid or heart-shaped figures.

According to some Catholic version, there was a saint who was named 'Valentine' and was martyred in Africa with his few companions. The famous Valentine symbol is 'Cupid' and has a figure of boy armed with arrows as well as piercing hearts. The significance of arrow is desire and love emotions. Today these arrows have become a love sign and the day is celebrated with great pomp.

Many observe this day as lovers day, the day on which lovers shower their feelings of love for each other. The love is expressed in the form of exchange of Valentines Day cards or giving flowers or offering sweets. In the earlier days, Valentines Day was celebrated with handwritten notes. But with the advancement of science and age, it has given way to greeting cards. After greeting cards, came roses and chocolates which are nowadays being exchanged on this day. In some countries, gifts like jewelry are also given.

In many countries like USA, Canada, UK, Italy, France, Germany, Valentines Day is extremely popular and it is observed as a holiday. The love is not only restricted to lovers but also amongst every section of people. The day is celebrated with exchange of valentine gifts, chocolates, greeting cards, roses and candies. Dance parties as well as dinners are organized to celebrate the occasion. There are various programs in schools and colleges as well as parties are organized. Everywhere you can see sweets and candies with 'heart shaped' figures with a red ribbon tied around.

Valentine Day is a day on which you express your love and also celebrate love.
